Roots Prep School

Preschool · Ages 3 – 6 Years

Three hours of uninterrupted work. Every single morning.

The 3-hour Montessori work cycle is one of the most powerful things we do. Combined with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework and Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), our Preschool prepares children for kindergarten the right way: by building real thinkers, not test-takers.

Our Approach

What makes our Preschool different

We combine Montessori, EYFS, and Texas TEKS. Here's what that means in practice.

The 3-Hour Work Cycle

From 9am to noon, children work without interruption on materials they choose. No bells. No forced transitions. This is where deep concentration — one of Montessori's rarest gifts — actually develops.

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

This UK framework covers 7 areas of learning: Communication, Physical Development, Personal & Social Development, Literacy, Maths, Understanding the World, and Expressive Arts. Lata has used this framework at DFW Montessori schools for over a decade.

Texas TEKS Aligned

Children leaving our Preschool are ready for Texas kindergarten — not just socially, but academically. TEKS alignment means no gap when they move to public or private K.

Real Materials, Real Work

Children learn with hands-on Montessori materials designed to build concentration and independence — not worksheets, and not screens.

Lata Nathani — Educational Director

35+ years in early childhood education. Led 4 Montessori schools across DFW. The curriculum you see in the Preschool room is the curriculum she designed — and still oversees daily.

5 Days a Week

6:30am–6:30pm, Monday through Friday, every week. The work cycle runs five days a week — consistency is part of how it works.

Daily Life

A typical day in the Preschool room

The 3-hour work cycle is the centrepiece. Everything else is built around it — so children get the deep, uninterrupted time that real learning requires.

Times are consistent from day to day — predictability is part of the Montessori method.

6:30am – Arrival & Morning Work

Children arrive and begin self-directed work at the shelves. Early arrivals get extended work time — a natural incentive for punctuality.

9:00am – 12:00pm — The Work Cycle

Three uninterrupted hours. Children choose from Montessori materials across all curriculum areas — practical life, sensorial, language, maths, culture. Guides observe and give individual lessons. No group interruptions.

12:00pm – Lunch & Outdoor Play

Children prepare their place settings, eat together, and help clean up. Outdoor time follows — physical movement, social play, and a natural break before the afternoon.

Afternoon – Group Work & Rest

Circle time, stories, art, and group lessons. Rest period for those who need it. EYFS and TEKS-aligned activities woven through the afternoon for children who are ready.

Up to 6:30pm – Pickup

Free afternoon work until pickup. Your guide shares what your child worked on, any new concepts introduced, and highlights from the day.
